Preakness Reformed Church

Wayne, New Jersey

Welcome to the Preakness Reformed Church!

Was there a moment, known only to God, when all the stars held their breath,

when the galaxies paused in their dance for a fraction of a second,

and the Word, who had called it all into being,

went with all his love into the womb of a young girl,

and the universe started to breathe again, and the ancient harmonies resumed their song, and the angels clapped their hands for you?         -                  Madeline L’Engle

Tonight, we hear the good news of great joy;

for to us is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord!

Jesus has arrived in grace and mystery,

renewing faded hopes and announcing peace to a weary world.

Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace among those whom God favors!

Jesus comes among us in power and glory inspiring fresh Christmas joy

and calling us to lives that are full of God’s love.

Jesus, the light of the world, is born.

Let Christ’s light shine in the darkest corners of our lives.

Let Christ’s light shine in the darkest corners of the world. God is with us.

OPENING CAROL 76       O Come, All Ye Faithful                  ADESTE FIDELES

                                                                  (verses 1,3,4)

      CHRISTMAS PRAYER                                                 Martin Luther, adapted

Little Child of God, laid in a manger, we adore your coming!

Now God, is our image, God is our flesh and blood.

Now there is no difference at all between your body and ours.

You are our Saviour and our brother lying in a cot.

You join our human frailty, share our needs, and assure us of utter glory. Halleluiah!

This night, in your face, little Lord Jesus, we see the face of God. AMEN!

                                                 THE MESSAGE OF CHRISTMAS

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE       “The Invisible Presence”           Pastor Mary Marcus

Carol           86                  Away in a Manger                          CRADLE SONG

READING OF THE GOSPEL                            Luke 2:1-20 (p.58-59)

      SONG                                “Hallelujah Christmas”

I've heard about this baby boy
Who's come to earth to bring us joy
And I just want to sing this song to you
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
With every breath I'm singing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

A couple came to Bethlehem
Expecting child, they searched the inn
To find a place for You were coming soon
There was no room for them to stay
So in a manger filled with hay
God's only Son was born, oh Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

The shepherds left their flocks by night
To see this baby wrapped in light
A host of angels led them all to You
It was just as the angels said
You'll find Him in a manger bed
Immanuel and Savior, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
