Welcome to the Preakness Reformed Church!

“The greatest threat to justice and mercy is complacency. We become immune to the cries of those suffering…Don’t get complacent. Don’t get too comfortable with your surroundings. Instead, keep ready by being engaged in the Word of God in the World.”

  • Call TO WORSHIP                                    -adapted from Revelation 5 & 6

Today we praise the name of Jesus, who makes all things possible with God and therefore we sing a new song!

Jesus has redeemed saints from every tribe and language and people and nation; Christ has made us into a kingdom and priests serving our God.

We also join the voices of many angels surrounding the throne of God and the living

creatures and the elders; they number myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying together,

Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!

In the future and today, there will be and already is, a great multitude that no one can count from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the lamb, crying with a loud voice,

Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb! Amen! Blessings and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen!

 Prayer OF CONFESSION

There are signs all around of God’s presence among us – both in that which has been created and in the newness of creation of everyday living. Forgive us Lord, when we only look for signs of gloom and doom. Help us to look for signs of hope and triumph.

Forgive us, merciful God, when we spend so much time looking for the scary things in life.  Focus our attention on ways in which we can be of service with whatever time we have. Forgive us when we seek the darkness of anger and fear and turn our backs on the light of possibilities and peace. Open our hearts once again to your redeeming love and transforming peace…

(silent prayers of confession)

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you!

(Please greet one another with the peace of Christ.)

(Children will remain in the Sanctuary for Worship.)

Prayers AROUND THE TABLE                                                                                …ending with The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
