Welcome to the Preakness Reformed Church!

“The authors of First and Second Kings offer a history of politics that is unremittingly negative.  This is instead of the glorification of political power or nationalistic celebration…Almost all human kingdoms and powers go to any lengths to exercise power over others (political, economic, military, cultural), whereas the reign of God that Jesus taught and modeled flourishes—a radically counter-cultural mandate for an alternative ordering of human affairs.”

-Daniel B. Clendenin

  • Call TO WORSHIP             -sentences from II Chronicles 5

We gather today for worship and praise to Almighty God! Just as

“the elders of Israel, the Levites taking up the ark, the priests, King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel gathered for worship.

All the priests consecrated themselves before the Lord, regardless of their divisions.

All the Levites who were musicians—dressed in fine linen and played cymbals, harps and lyres.  They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets.

The trumpeters and singers joined in unison as with one voice, to give praise and thanks    to the Lord.  Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang:

The Lord is good; God’s love endures forever.”

  • OPENING SONG of PRAISE 10,000 Reasons-Bless the Lord Myrin & Redman (pg. 4)
  • salutation

Merciful God, we offer you our lives, full as they are of darkness and light, of kindness and indifference, of hope and despair. Take what is broken and mend it; take what is wrong and right it; take what is destructive and disable it; take what is useless and make it useful. Heal us from our sins, we pray…

(silent prayers of confession)

The peace of Christ by with you.

And also with you!

(Please greet one another with the peace of Christ.)

(Children will remain in the Grove for Worship.)

                                 RESPONDING AS GOD’S PEOPLE

Prayers of THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION                                             …ending with The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)             Jonas Myrin & Matt Redman

Bless the Lord, oh my soul, oh my soul,

Worship His holy name,

Sing like never before, oh my soul,

I’ll worship Your holy name,

The sun comes up it’s a new day dawning,

Its time to sing Your song again,

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me,

Let me be singing when the evening comes,

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger,

Your name is great and Your heart is kind,

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing,

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find,

And on that day when my strength is failing,

The end draws near and my time has come,

Still my soul will sing Your praise un ending,

Ten thousand years and then for-ev-er more,

            Worship Your holy name,

Lord I’ll worship Your holy name.

Call My Name                                                 Mac Powell

It’s been so long, since you felt like you were loved,

So what went wrong,

But do you know, there’s a place where you belong,

Here in my arms,

When you feel like you’re alone in your sadness,

And it seems like no one in this whole world cares,

And you want to get away from the madness,

You just call my name and I’ll be there,

You just call my name and I’ll be there.

The pain inside has erased your hope for love

Soon you will find,

Ill give you all that your heart could ever want,

And so much more,

Call my name, say it now,

I want you to never doubt,

The love I have for you is so alive, (REPEAT)

God Help Me                                          Tiffany Arbuckle Lee

There’s a wrestling in my heart and my mind,

A disturbance and a tension I cannot seem to drive,

And if I’m honest, there’s quite a bit of fear,

To sit here in this silence and really hear You,

What would You ask of me,

Will I listen to Your voice when You speak?

Help me to move, help me to see,

Help me to do whatever You would ask of me

Help me to go, God help me to stay,

I’m feeling so alone here,

And I know that You’re faithful,

But I can barely breathe

So God help me.

Sometimes things, they are black and white,

Sometimes they are not and that leaves us torn inside,

And in the middle, we are left to wonder,

Who we are, what You want and where we’re going,

Oh such a mystery,

I don’t always understand,

But I believe!

I don’t know the future, it’s one day at a time,

But I know I’ll be okay with Your hand holding mine,

So take all my resistance,

Oh God I need Your grace,

One step and then the other, show me the way,

Show me the way!
