PREAKNESS REFORMED CHURCH

WAYNE, NEW JERSEY

SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

June 3, 2018    10:00 A.M.

Welcome to the Preakness Reformed Church!

“Imagine that the exact same power that brought light to the cosmos at the beginning of time is now offering light to illumine you, is in fact, shining through you as sunlight streams through a window.”

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • CALL TO WORSHIP

Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob. Raise a song, sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp. Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our festal day. (Psalm 81)

Today we sing songs of praise to God. We use a variety of instruments to lead us and guide us in our worship today.

Hear, O my people, while I admonish you; O Israel, if you would but listen to me! I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you. (Psalm 81)

Sisters and Brothers, we are called to listen and follow the ways of God. Worship is a time to focus on God. Through our worship services, we hear about God’s blessings and we gather at the Lord’s Table of Grace.

Prayer OF CONFESSION

Holy God, forgive us when we do not honor and proclaim the name of Jesus. Forgive us when we do not bless others in what we say and do. Cure us healing Christ, on this and every day of rest, that being restored in body, mind, and spirit, we may do what is good, learn what is helpful, and return to our daily work showing love and grace to others.

(silent prayers of confession)

     WORDS OF FORGIVENESS

  • PASSING THE PEACE

In the power of the Holy Spirit and love of Christ, let us share signs of peace with one another. The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you!

(Please greet one another with the peace of Christ.)

Prayers of THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION    …ending with The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

            Communion Prayer

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)

            The Lord be with you!

            And also with you.

            Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is truly right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, almighty and everlasting God. With the heavenly host and with the saints of all times and places, we lift up our hearts in joyful praise, saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

Gracious God, send your Holy Spirit upon us, we pray, that the bread which we break and the cup which we bless may be to us the communion of the body and blood of Christ. Amen.

            Communion

All baptized Christians; children and adults, are invited to share the sacrament of communion.

Come forward by the center aisle, as guided by the ushers.  Receive the bread;
dip the bread in the cup offered by an elder.  After eating, return to your seat by the side aisle.  Wheat-free wafers are available in the paper cup.

Those who wish to participate in communion, but are unable to come forward,
are invited to inform an usher in order to be served in their seat.

There’s nothing worth more, that could ever come close,

No thing can compare, You’re our living hope,

I’ve tasted and seen, of the sweetest of loves,

Where my heart becomes free, and my shame is undone,

In Your presence Lord.

CHORUS

Holy Spirit You are welcome here,
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere,
Your glory God is what our hearts long for,
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord,
Your Presence Lord,

There’s nothing worth more, that could ever come close

No thing can compare, You’re our living hope,

Your presence Lord

I’ve tasted and seen, of the sweetest of loves

Where my heart becomes free, and my shame is undone

In Your presence Lord.
