NINETEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
September 30, 2018 10:00 A.M.
Welcome to the Preakness Reformed Church!
“If you are getting weary of being called out these past weeks, well, that’s Mark. That’s Jesus. That’s what it means to follow Jesus. But getting called out is not always a bad thing. It gets you to see something about yourself and in doing so, maybe you can then see beyond yourself.”

Patient Lord, we know that you call us to service, but we often feel inadequate. We love to make excuses for not doing something or for doing something only half-heartedly. Remind us again of your loving and guiding presence. Forgive us when we miss opportunities and hesitate to serve. Turn us again to you, serving joyfully and confidently…

COMMUNITY CONCERNS: Seeing God’s Goodness in Others
Litany: selected stanzas from “Our World Belongs to God”
Together, every hue and variety of humanity – we are called to represent God,
for the Lord God made us all. Life is God’s gift to us, and we are called to foster
the well-being of all the living.
When humans deface God’s image, the whole world suffers:
we abuse the creation or idolize it; we are estranged from our Creator,
from our neighbor, from our true selves, and from all that God has made.
And so we rejoice in the goodness of God, renounce the works of darkness,
and dedicate ourselves to holy living.
As covenant partners, set free for joyful obedience, we offer our hearts and lives to do God’s work in the world. With tempered impatience, eager to see injustice ended, we expect the Day of the Lord.
We are confident that the light which shines in the present darkness will fill the earth when Christ appears.
Come, Lord Jesus. Our world belongs to you.
Prayers OF THE PEOPLE …ending with “The Prayer of Peace”
Lord, make me an instrument of peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Assisting God’s people in worship this morning are: Pastor Eric Nichols, worship leader;
Heather O’Connell, liturgist; Michael O’Reilly, Soloist; Ken Tanis, Bass; Glenn O’Connell, Guitar;
Mary Pinto Krugel, Accompanist; Chancel Choir and Daniel King, Director of Music Ministries.
