Grace to you and peace from the Holy One

who always has been, is today, and always will be;

and from Jesus Christ, the faithfulness witness, the firstborn of the dead,

and the ruler of the kings of the earth.                                                  Revelation 1:4,5

He had no troops and built no palace,

yet his rule is now boundless.

He had no throne and wore no crown,

yet as a ruler he is in his own category…

supreme above the whole earth.

No one works like him.

Look! He is coming with the clouds;

every eye will see him…

Jesus the Christ has given us a new kingdom

where we are all priests to his God and Father,

to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen!           Revelation 1:5,6

  • OPENING HYMN 555 Let All Creation’s Wonders                       THAXT
  • SALUTATION

      PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, You are faithful to all generations – from the beginning of time,

you have called all kinds of characters to be your people.

When we forget that their story is our story, forgive us.

When we admire them from afar,

while insisting that kind of faith isn’t practical for us, forgive us.

We confess that your justice is too hard for us to do,

and we prefer to create our own.

We confess that we do not often bear the fruit you expect of your vineyard,

resisting your kingdom’s way when it conflicts with our desires.

Eternal and compassionate Monarch,

whose rain falls on the just and the unjust,

Forgive us yet again,

and plant your word of justice deep in our hearts and lives.

Lead us, Christ our Sovereign,

And set us on the path to righteous rule in all that we do. Amen.

(continue with silent prayers of confession)

CREED: OUR SONG OF HOPE

As citizens we acknowledge the Spirit's work in human government
for the welfare of the people,
for justice among the poor,
for mercy towards the prisoner,
against inhuman oppression of humanity.
We must obey God above all rulers,
waiting upon the Spirit,
filled with the patience of Christ.

While our truths come in broken fragments,
we expect the Spirit to unite these in Christ.

and all creation will be filled with God's glory.

Christ's hand reaches out beyond those who say "Lord"

to the infants who live in the atmosphere of faith,

even to the farthest stars and planets in all creation.

The boundaries of God's love are not known.

God will renew the world through Jesus,

who will put all unrighteousness out.

Christ will wipe away every tear; death shall be no more.

There will be a new heaven and a new earth,

and all creation will be filled with God's glory.
