PREAKNESS REFORMED CHURCH

WAYNE, NEW JERSEY

PENTECOST SUNDAY

May 20, 2018   10:00 A.M.

Welcome to the Preakness Reformed Church!

“If there is a dream dreaming us, it will be God’s vision of us, and if we have a sense of being part of that dream, it will be our heart’s vision of God.”  - John S. Dunne, Reasons of the Heart

“I have a dream”, God says. “Please help Me to realize it. It is a dream of a world whose ugliness and squalor and poverty, its war and hostility, its greed and harsh competitiveness, its alienation and disharmony are changed into their glorious counterparts, when there will be more laughter, joy, and peace, where there will be justice and goodness and compassion and love and

caring and sharing.”  - Desmund Tutu, God Has a Dream

  • THE CHURCH GATHERS ACTS 2:1-4

When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers gathered in one place.

Left Side: Suddenly a sound came from heaven. It was like a strong wind blowing.

It filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Right Side: They saw something; it looked like fire in the shape of tongues.

The flames separated and came to rest on each of them.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.

They began to speak in languages they had not known before.

All: The Spirit gave them the ability to do this.

  • AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

This Jesus, then, was born of the race of the Hebrews; and he had twelve disciples in order that the purpose of this incarnation might in time be accomplished. But he himself was pierced…and he died and was buried; and they say that after three days he rose and ascended to heaven.

Thereupon these twelve disciples went forth throughout the known parts of the world, and kept showing his greatness with all modesty and uprightness. And hence also those of the present day who believe that preaching are called Christians, and they  become famous.             The Creed of Aristides of Athens (1st century)

There are millions of God’s disciples. Some might feel small, but to God we are great!

We believe God gives you people when you need them. We feel like we have a family here at the church. And a family is always there for its members and will be ready to help, even if you are slow to ask for it.

Regardless of where the physical church may be.

the church family is something we can hold close to us. The church strives to be welcoming, the church can be a second home for us.

                                 RESPONDING TO THE GOOD NEWS

Prayers of THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION  …ending with The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
